Research Presentation

This is a Co-Design research project aiming to envision a better interdisciplinary experience in colleges and universities. Choosing a major is a huge decision for young adults pursuing higher education. It is expected that an individual’s major will impact their career trajectory, as well as representing a significant aspect of their identity. Because they are so heavily associated with an individual’ identity, college majors often carry stereotypes with them.
Through our research, we aim to learn about stereotypes that exist regarding students in different majors and determine their origin. We hope that this process will reveal the opportunities that students currently have to interact with individuals in different majors, and any barriers inhibiting their ability to do so. Ultimately, we will propose ideas for future opportunities for students’ interdisciplinary interaction. This is a collaborative project with three other design researchers – Kathryn Keverkamp, Christian Robinson, and Jane Zucker
